In an interesting move by their company, Logitech has announced its plans of acquiring Blue Microphones, a company that specializes in professional microphone and headphone solutions. Blue opened its doors in 1995, introducing the world to a collection of microphones that were not only a great option for both professional artists, but also for those looking to get started in the industry for things like podcasting and eventually vlogging as that grew in popularity.
With popular solutions like their Yeti and Snowball products, you began seeing these microphones pop up all over YouTube as a popular choice for amateurs and beyond, as they provided a decent level of quality at a price most anyone could afford. In fact, you can see the influence in some of the other brands as they pushed forward with similar models of their own.

The price tag on this acquisition is a whopping $117 million, showing how serious Logitech really is at branching out. They already own a handful of audio brands, such as UE (Ultimate Ears), a company behind a number of popular Bluetooth speakers that have made a lot of noise in the market (literally). They also own Jaybird as well, a company behind a number of in-ear headphone solutions. Now, they will have their own microphones to go with everything.
“We have a lot in common with Logitech. Our products are all about the marriage of great design and stellar performance, and so are theirs. We both have strong brands in the gaming market. We make the most popular streaming mic, they make the most popular streaming cam. And we both want to put excellent, high-performance gear on every desktop.” – Blue CEO John Maier
Maybe there will be a chance that you might find a few hybrid products in the near future, like a new UHD webcam with a built-in small-diaphragm condenser microphone inside. That would make for a great streaming camera for YouTubers, Twitch users, and more.
