Both Marantz and Denon have announced the release of a new firmware update for a small number of AV receivers which will give them support for Auro 3D, a format of audio that helps create a true surround experience by taking advantage of speakers in your ceiling known as height channels (similar to Dolby Atmos, which we have covered many times in the past).
Each manufacturer has listed two receivers that will be getting the update beginning today (March 29th, 2016). These models include the following:
Marantz
- SR7010 – 9.2 Channel 4K Receiver
- AV7702mkII – 11.2 Channel 4K Receiver
Denon
- AVR-X4200W – 7.2 Channel 4K Receiver
- AVR-X6200W – 9.2 Channel 4K Receiver
So in case support for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X wasn’t enough, and you are already a happy owner of one of these models–it is time to visit the idea of upgrading their firmware. If you aren’t and are looking for one of the best receivers money can buy (for those with plenty of speakers to play with)–that support all of the latest formats–maybe it’s time to invest into one.
A little about Auro 3D: it is a next generation audio format that delivers a full three-dimensional sound spread capable of reproducing natural acoustic space by surrounding you with a “cocoon of life-like sound”.
