Marantz has released their new flagship AVR, the SR7011, a 9.2 channel receiver (11.2 channel pre-outs) with a long list of features. Just like everyone else rushing to deliver the best receiver every year, it contains some amazing options at a price some might cringe at–unless of course, you can afford.
We have throughout the years tested many receivers from companies like Marantz, Pioneer, Yamaha, Denon and more. When it comes to flagships, we can’t hide our smirk as our toes curl in anticipation of what it will sound like and what we can play with. This round, we don’t have a chance just yet to play with this one since it’s not sitting in one of our demo labs. However, we do have the low-down of what you can expect to find feature wise, so we will start with that for now.
The new SR7011 offers (of course) full 4K and HDR (High Dynamic Range) pass-through support for all of your favorite content. You can’t launch a flagship without supporting HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 giving you 4K at 60p. So they have this covered. Dolby Atmos and DTS:X/Neural:X is also on-board and ready to be taken advantage of–if you have the setup and enough speakers. Of course, if you are getting a 9.2 channel receiver, you more than likely do. Auro-3D is also supported but requires a software upgrade that you have to pay for (sorry folks, they want you to pay for the licensing related to be able to use that format).
It can put out up 125-watts of sound to each channel, giving you a lot of power to play with. It doesn’t beat out some of your Yamaha options, but 125 is still quite a bit to brag about when it comes to just a receiver and no external amps in the mix. If you do add an external amp into the solution, you can expand it further to 11.2 channels.
It features 8 HDMI inputs, all supporting HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2. You have two outputs to run to multiple screens with (ie, a projector and a flatscreen in case you want a setup like us and don’t want to use the projector for games). You also have a Zone 2 output as well.
For networking, you have both wired ethernet as well as WiFi (a/b/g/n/ac) and it supports music streaming at resolutions up to 192kHz/24bit and DSD5.6MHz. You have multiple streaming app solutions to play with including Pandora, SiriusXM, Deezer, Amazon Music, TIDAL, internet radio, and Spotify Connect. It has built-in Bluetooth and Apple AirPlay support as well as HEOS technology. The ladder opens your abilities for multi-room audio.
The new receiver is available online and in selected stores at a launch price of $2199.00! If we get our hands on one to play with, we’ll make sure to follow-up with more delicious intel!
