Remember that amazing digital painting frame solution from Meural we discussed some time ago? It was a fantastic product with so much potential and a unique product that had never hit the market before. Something that was just a fictional item in movies that we wish we had and could now finally own. Sure, it was riddled with WiFi issues in the beginning and may still have a hiccup here or there, but it was a solid product beyond that.
The only thing that prevented everyone from jumping on it was the price. This limited its exposure to the consumer market as not everyone was willing to dish out that kind of cash on something like that. Regardless, it was a wonderful idea and it took off for them. So much that Netgear stepped in and bought them out.
Now, they have a new product they have launched into the world. The Meural WiFi Photo Frame. A digital photo frame with the touch of Meural magic to go with it. It is larger than most of the other digital photo frames out there, with a size of 13.5” x 7.5”.
Just like the digital painting frame, you can access and control all of your images from your phone, as well as being able to control the images via gestures (waving your hand close to the frame). You can have access to their digital catalog of images and artwork and more. All tucked within a brilliant-looking picture frame.
The only catch is that the price tag starts at $299.95, which once again, alienates a lot of consumers. Unlike the digital painting frame, it is far too easy to buy into a basic digital photo frame at less than $100. You can easily visit a shop like Michaels and pick up a really nice looking frame, or make your own, likely still placing you less than $100. The only catch is you might not have WiFi control of it (limiting access to an SD card or a thumb drive). We have seen larger digital photo frames that do have WiFi/app access for around $130-$150 (some are even touch-screen).
This feels like a tough sale, but we have been wrong before. If you are willing to lay down $299+ for one or more of these, they are available right now from Netgear’s website for Meural.
