Microsoft is making changes when it comes to the types of products it will continue to manufacture, possibly feeling the pressure from the competition. The company has been designing its own keyboards, mice, webcams, and other accessories for decades. Usually one of the top two brands you’d find on any store shelf.
However, this is changing suddenly now that the company has made the decision to discontinue its normal line of accessories. Instead, it will be focusing its attention on its own Surface brand of products, limiting accessory production to these devices only.

It kind of sounds like the company is shifting strategies from universal competition with companies like Logitech to a niche product environment like Apple’s. This will result in a lot of familiar products dropping from shelves as whatever is left slowly thins out of inventory.
This may mean that Microsoft is moving away from offering more affordable alternatives when it comes to accessories. However, this is yet to be seen as it can always launch new products with the Surface brand that feature more reasonable pricing.
It’s also uncertain if some of the current products out there will be re-branded as Surface-series products. The company has a lot of familiar products out there and it would be strange to simply let them go.
