Microsoft announced at 2015 Game Developers Conference that the HoloLens will support Xbox gaming. Their own studios have been hard at work to develop the first generation gaming experience on the upcoming technology that is presumably going to be released later this year–keeping in mind, that is our own assumption as no release time frame has been given by Microsoft just yet.
This raises the excitement as the demos alone that were shared back in January, were big just by themselves. During those demos, they shared how the HoloLens could be used for the game “Minecraft” to create an elaborate environment that can interact with your immediate surroundings. Imagine playing a first person shooter like Halo where the enemies are injected into your own house or neighborhood. Of course, that could lead to a lot of accidents, but in a controlled environment, wouldn’t be bad at all. A portable holodeck with all of your favorite Xbox games integrated.
The information was confirmed by Phil Spencer, Xbox Chief, at the conference on Wednesday. Access to third party developers will begin eventually, and developers can get a head start by registering for the Windows Insider Program. Further details will be announced when they are ready.
