Netgear has launched a new L2/L2+ smart switch into the market. It is the new 8-Port Multi-Gigabit PoE++ Smart Switch (MS108TUP). Targeting businesses small in size or larger, this switch offers everything a managed switch would and more.
All eight ports are 2.5Gb, allowing the user to break past the normal 1Gb limits if they choose. Four of these ports support PoE++ capable of up to 230W total budget at 60W a port, while the other four ports support up to PoE+ with 30W each. It offers PoE Self-Healing, advanced per-port PoE controls, and Energy Efficient Ethernet (IEEE 802.3az) gaining the user some power savings.
What makes it all happen is its cloud-driven Netgear Insight management platform. Something that does more than just offer you simple VLAN abilities and QoS controls. You also get IPv6 management, Access Control Lists (ACL), DiffServ QoS, IPv4 Static Routing, Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP), and analytics.
The latter is something you almost never find with Netgear products without spending a lot more money than what you’d find within the consumer categories (sadly). Of course, even then, this does require subscribing to Netgear’s Insight platform, which will run you a given amount per year (per device).
However, small to mid-size businesses could benefit from such a thing and this is just one of many devices that support Netgear’s Insight. It comes in with a price point of $489 and is currently only available via Netgear directly. It is likely that it will make its way to retailers (like Amazon) in the near future but we don’t have any word on that just yet.

No review? What’s up with that?
Hello Augusteen’s Cake. Unfortunately, Netgear almost never sends anything in to be tested. So unless someone here were to buy one (or one was bought for use in the office), we’d have no way to form enough of an opinion to be scored. Thus, no review.
