Are you in need of an external SSD (solid state drive) that is rugged in the sense of taking on water and walking away without any troubles? OWC (Other World Computing) might have what you’re looking for in their new Envoy Pro EX External NVMe SSDs.
Perfect for taking it with you on those splash-prone trips where you need to either accomplish a job or relax on the beach. Whatever your excuse and need may be, this drive is IP67 rated, allowing it to handle up to 30 minutes in up to a meter (just over three feet) of water without failures.
The new drive consists of a familiar case design and sports a USB-C interface, allowing for speeds of up to 980MB/s. It offers a capacity of up to 2TB, depending on which model you get your hands on, and comes with a long three-year warranty.
They offer three capacity options, including 250GB ($129), 500GB ($179), 1TB ($249), and 2TB ($429). You also have the option of picking up the enclosure by itself, allowing you to insert a different NVMe solution in case you prefer to use your “other” favorite brand (whatever it may be).
Pricing, of course, is a little high as it is a specialty solution, and you are paying for the enclosure more than anything. However, there are plenty of professionals who can make use of such a product, who, I am sure, are more than willing to pay what is needed to get this into their inventory of gear.
The new series of drives will be launching a little later this month, and you have the ability to already pre-order/order one now to make sure that you are one of the first to get your hands on one. See the button below.
