Last month, our intel showed that the GoPro 4 lineup would not be coming out next year but instead will see its way into the market this October with an early release. Now we can rejoice in such information since it has now been proven accurate.
This October 5th, GoPro will be launching the new lineup, including a new entry-level “Hero” camera that will help increase the price niche they compete against.
The Silver Edition will sport a new built-in touchscreen on the back for previewing and playback of the material you are shooting. It will allow for 12-megapixel 30fps (frames per second) still shots and can shoot up to 60fps at 1080p. It will be retailing for $399, the same price as the Hero3+ Black Edition.
The Black Edition will not have the screen on the back, but it will support 4K video recording at 30fps, as well as 2K video at 50fps, 1080p at 120fps and still shots at 30fps and 12-megapixels. It will be retailing for $499.
Our earlier leaked information claimed that the Black edition would also support 720p at 240fps, but this is unconfirmed by GoPro at this time.
The only thing that conflicted with our earlier information was the price. Our intel showed that they were going to bring the price down a little to compete. Currently that isn’t the case. The new prices take the cameras to an entirely new level that we aren’t too comfortable with just yet. They are amazing cameras, but as their price increases, the competition hasn’t budged, making the GoPro a pricey investment.
Until we have one sitting in our hands for testing though, we won’t be able to just to any conclusions just yet. We will make sure to update with new information as we get it. Hopes are high though as the Hero3+ Black Edition was one of only two items to ever get a perfect 10/10 score in the history of our online publishments.
