Anker has been killing it with its charging dock for the Oculus Quest 2 VR headset. However, competition is heating up and now another company is hot on Anker’s heels as well. NexiGo recently launched an upgraded dock for the VR headset and controllers as well and it too takes little effort to make use of.
One of the important things when designing a dock for a wireless VR headset is to make the dock as wireless as possible, as well (in our book). Second to making sure it charges quickly. Anker did this right with wireless contacts on the remotes and a magnetic USB adapter for the USB port of the headset.
NexiGo’s latest dock comes close to doing the same and only barely misses a full delivery, but without dropping the ball, making it a worthy advisory. It too offers a magnetic adapter for the headset. Only, unlike Anker’s model, you have to manually bring the cable to the headset after you have dropped it onto the stand, where it then snaps into place as it gets close (where Anker’s design feature the cable slid into the dock so it automatically grabs onto the adapter as the headset drops into the dock). A minor difference with an extra second of effect on the user’s part (not bad).
It is also a few dollars less than Anker’s model, weighing in at just $79.99 (vs Anker’s $98.99). Therefore, I’d say it may just be worth the extra second spent connecting the headset to the cable.
It also looks a tad cooler in ways, than Anker’s solution. Where Anker’s looks kind of like a soundbar-shaped dock that you drop everything into, NexiGo’s is a little closer to Skywin’s PSVR Charging Stand (at least, it comes kind of close to it). Although Anker’s looks as though the material quality might be a little higher. It’s hard to say for sure since we don’t have one sitting in front of us right now to tell for sure. Either way, it does have a neat design in general.
The new dock is available now and can be found via Amazon. You’ll find a button to it below.
