It is sad news that Satoru Iwata, Nintendo’s president, has passed away at the age of 55 years old. The cause was a “bile duct growth” after he has been fighting poor health conditions since last year. Last year Satoru went through surgery to remove a tumor in his bile duct that was thought to have been a success, but wound up not being enough.
Satoru’s history with Nintendo dates back to the early 80’s where he worked for HAL Laboratory and eventually had involvement in games such as Balloon Fight, EarthBound and Kirby. In 1993, he was promoted to president of HAL and later joined Nintendo in 2000 as head of its corporate planning division.
