Most anyone with experience with setting up their own media server for streaming their content to various devices knows that Plex is one of the best options out there. We love them, many of our staff make use of the software, and they are voted at or near the top of just about any other top solution list out there.
Not everything comes without some bumps in the road though (nothings perfect). There have been a few versions of their app that didn’t always perform to its best. One of these was on the Xbox One gaming consoles, and the other, Windows 10 (app via the Microsoft Store). Their browser-based version, mobile versions, and so many others worked beyond expectations. However, the Xbox and Windows 10 app store editions fell through the cracks. You got some crashing, and sometimes pausing a video was enough to cause it to be jittery or get stuck in buffering when coming back to it.
One of those, however, has recently seen a complete face-lift, and you might have already run into it. The Xbox version of the app was updated with a completely new design, and what seems to be fixes for all of the odd anomalies that existed within the app. You can pause, go back, switch to subtitles, and many other things, without messing up the stream. Suddenly, many things about this app got better overnight and have been fantastic ever since the roll-out. Everything is just, smooth.
They are still working on adding various features to it, so it isn’t completely finished just yet. Some of you have pointed out that certain features like showing the current and next episode number when in the transition screen (between episodes) is missing, which can be confusing when you want to know what number you are on. Rest assured, they are working on it. A recent response from Plex shows that they are listening to you and do plan on adding this and more to future updates that are right around the corner.
Always good to talk about a company that actively listens to its customers and consistently dishes out new features and enhancements throughout the year.
Hopefully, their Windows 10 app will be next on their list due to the crashing and freezing it is known for. We know as we use it too! So we feel your pain, but at least you know they are listening. As for everything else, things seem to be going incredibly smoothly for them.
