As electric vehicles continue to grow, so do the various technologies behind it all that you can take advantage of to make your day to day life easier. One of these is a neat charging solution that automates most of the process of keeping that nice vehicle of yours charged safely.
The Q-Reel is a charging station that looks simplify the process of charging your vehicle to simply plugging it in and walking away. You can monitor the status of the charge via their app, but you won’t have to worry much about it since you’ll never have to go unplug it when it is finished or worry about it being plugged in for too long.

It features a retracting reel to help keep the space around it free of any cables when not in use, and the run of cable simple and clean when it is in use. It will automatically retract when your vehicle comes close to it, allowing you to reach for it and plug it in.
When it is finished charging the vehicle, it will automatically disconnect from the vehicle and retract back into its closure without any interaction from you.
So the only thing not automated about it is the plugging in part, which is more than reasonable. It’s not like we want an automated snake poking and scratching around the paint trying to find the port just because it has a dirty vision sensor or something (and it’s not like the tech is there yet to pull that off anyway).
It’s an interesting design and really looks like it could keep the area clean and free of hassles or concern for safety/risk. For now though, it is still in its crowdfunding and design stages, so you will have to wait to see how well it performs or to get your hands on your own. You can learn more via their website here. The early bird price is €499 (around $560 US) to reserve one for when it goes into production. If all goes well for them, they plan to start shipping by January 2021.
