Razer has made a bold claim by announcing that they have launched the fastest gaming grade Wi-Fi router with their new Razer Sila. The Sila is a new tri-band AC3000 router that, like most gaming routers, focuses on prioritizing bandwidth for gaming, streaming and downloading media, and promises low-latency or even lag-free gaming of Wi-Fi.
The new router hosts a string of options like Razer FasTrack (their QoS engine), Multi-Channel ZeroWait DFS and Mesh capability, all to help eliminate that latency and provide the best possible gaming experience. It has built-in detection of PlayStation, Xbox and Switch consoles so that it can help manage the traffic on your network to focus (prioritize) on them while you are playing.
“We are constantly achieving new performance heights with our hardware and software,” notes Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder and CEO. “But high precision and low latency can be rendered useless if the WiFi drops. So we took the next step to develop a strong foundation for our ecosystem; with WiFi that just works no matter where you are.”
With its mesh support, you can combine multiple units to create a mesh network throughout your home so that you can optimize coverage without any dead zones, and devices will be able to fluidly make their way around the home without having to jump between SSIDs/networks. Three units can cover a space of up to 6,000 sq ft
Of course there is nothing new here as Netgear, ASUS and more have been releasing solutions focusing on all of the same key points. They also claim to be the fastest, however we have tested a number of solutions that can handle a much greater throughput than this (most of them being the new AD and AX routers that seek to replace AC), such as Netgear’s Nighthawk X10, an AD7200 quad-band router that is a speed demon when it comes to home Wi-Fi. However, a lot of these routers we have seen lack the ability to support proper mesh configurations (or mesh at all), which gives Razer’s router a brownie point if it truly does support a proper mesh configuration.
The new Sila router is available now with an MSRP of $249.99. A decent price point in itself, however pricey if you are looking to mesh things up with multiple units around your home (just like Netgear’s Nighthawk system). You should start to see it roll out to store shelves (that carry Razer products) this week.
