Rivian has been having enough issues as it is trying to get its trucks into the wild. The slow manufacturing process means you aren’t likely to see one driving around that often (if it all). Now to add a little more pressure on the company, it’s having to recall all of its vehicles due to steering wheel troubles.
Thankfully, the company has only delivered just over 13,000 vehicles thus far. All being its EV truck (the R1T) outside of a few delivered SUVs (R1S). So it won’t be that heavy of an impact compared to what some of the larger manufacturers (like Ford or Toyota) have gone through in the past.
It is also a simple fix and is a voluntary recall. Specifically, the issue surrounds the steering wheel fastener not being properly torqued. This could lead to the fastener becoming lose, or in “very rare circumstances”, fully loosened.
Rivian states that the inspection and fix would simply take minutes and isn’t a burden to the customer or the company. Production will continue as it has, although slowly (as it has), and current reservations should not be impacted.
The company has a long way to go still before it can meet its manufacturing goals and recoope various loses it has sustained. However, it still has plenty of opportunity to become of the most recognized EV competitors out there (eventually).
