NVMe may be the future and gaining speed within the mark each year, but SATA SSD solutions still have a role to play. Especially since many users still don’t have support for the M.2 format of NVMe within their systems (or at least don’t know that they could upgrade using an open PCIe slot). SATA 3.0 support, on the other hand, is available to pretty much any system built within the last 10 years.
Adding to the available SATA solutions out there, Samsung has released the new 870 QVO Series SATA SSD, featuring the same speeds you’d expect to find from Samsung of 60 MB/s read and 530 MB/s write. What makes them exciting is that you’re able to find them in capacities up to 8TB, which helps them compete capacity-wise with HDD options.
Price-wise, they still have plenty of catching up to do, like any SSD line. They don’t come anywhere close to the cost of an HDD, which still has the chokehold on the market when it comes to price per TB.
