When you think about a powerful modern laptop set up with multiple screens, two things typically come to mind.
Thunderbolt 3, of course, is right there at the top. You can do so much with such a small connection, breaking out to everything in one shot. This includes your multiple screen experience, USB 3.0 and USB-C ports, network/internet, audio, and more. All of this, on one single connection. That single connection could possibly even charge your laptop as well (if your laptop supports charging through that TB3 connection).
So already, you are limiting the number of cables running to your laptop and allowing yourself to hide that clutter like you could a desktop. This will get even more exciting when TB4 comes out, but that’s another story. For now, TB3 is still quite the beast that is not to be underestimated. One cable from your laptop into a docking station that breaks everything out as a desktop would. Making it easy to plug in and start running, or unplug and walk away.
The second thing that comes to mind is NVMe. Clearly, you are going to want an NVMe drive as your internal drive. Working with external drives? Sure, let’s make those NVMe as well. Let there be no weak leaks!
With these two technologies paired with a laptop with powerful specs, you get one impressive setup that allows you to jump right into resource-heavy functions (let it be for work or for play).
There are many companies that have delivered wonderful TB3 docking solutions that offer so much connectivity, but did you know that Seagate was one of them? One of the most recognized storage manufacturers out there with their own TB3 docking station– the Seagate Firecuda TB3 Gaming Dock.
A docking station like all the rest, with multiple outputs/inputs and the ability to sport two external monitors. However, Seagate is a storage company. So why would they break into the industry of TB3 docks? Because that docking station hides an internal M.2 NVMe slot so that it can also act as your lightning-fast external storage.
You just eliminated one more device sitting around your desk along with one less cable to have to hide (coming from the dock normally). A wonderful all-in-one solution that not only delivers as an external hard drive but that drive can also easily be swapped out. So you won’t have to swap out the entire (expensive) dock whenever that drive capacity is no longer an interest.
It looks pretty cool too! It looks like a jet engine from a futuristic fighter jet sitting on your desk, adjustable LED lights, and all.
A pretty interesting solution from a powerful company of products. It comes with a 4TB Seagate Firecuda drive inside, thus it comes with the NVMe drive as well, and a large one at that. Again, you can swap it out whenever it comes down to it, but a 4TB NVMe is a great place to start.
These have been around for a number of months now. This didn’t just fall into the market. We just found that it was surprising that so many didn’t know of its existence. So it made for an opportunity to deliver you a story about something exciting. We have left some links below so you can easily learn more about them or pick one up for yourself. They aren’t cheap (currently $354.99), as TB3 and 4TB of NVMe can be a bit expensive. However, it is less expensive than buying the two products separately (no doubt there).
