Subway is trying to do everything it can to remain relevant within the fast food industry. With so much competition that has formed over the years, the company has struggled to stay on top as one of the most recognizable sandwich brands, losing a little to others here and there. Now, the company is looking to the future as a new way to boost its popularity, showing a preference for EV (electric vehicle) owners.
It appears that the company is looking to build what looks to be the next generation of Sonic drive-throughs with a little mix of McDonald’s playroom added to the mix. Only instead of simply sitting in your car to eat, you are able to charge your car at the same time. Subway is referring to the new idea as an “EV Charging Oasis”.
To achieve this, the company has partnered with GenZ EV Solutions with the idea of targeting new or newly renovated Subway locations (beginning this year). These new spots will include “charging canopies with multiple ports, picnic tables, Wi-Fi, restrooms, green space, and even playgrounds”. Keeping your refreshed, relieved, caught-up (online), and your children entertained.
It doesn’t sound like the charging stations will be free to use, but customers will have access to promotions at the restaurants that are exclusively available to those using the stations during their visit. So as long as they aren’t inflated prices at the chargers, this could end up saving you a little money if you planned to grab a sandwich regardless.
This can easily be seen as a neat idea that will likely continue to grow as other companies and restaurants add charging features/amenities to their locations. It also kind of feels like the next generation of playrooms (something that seemed to have died off over the years). Not only making a comeback but also including the adults this time as well (everyone walks away with something).
