This was a big year at CES 2019 for various forms of electric transportation. From bikes to skateboards to scooters to skates, and so much more. Companies from all around the world competing for the top spot in the market, including a lot of familiar brands we run into every year. One of those brands was Swagtron, with a handful of new products they were sharing with everyone.
This year we personally missed Swagtron at the show as they were hiding in a spot we couldn’t quite get to among the craziness of the show, but we still kept an eye on what was going on in their neck of the woods. Among some of the new items they had to share were some new off-road solutions, including both a scooter as well as a skateboard which looked quite fascinating.
Starting with the scooter, our favorite in the list from what we can see, it features a full suspension system, which means it would probably be a lot of fun taking through the desert. Obviously you will want to stick to basic off-road terrain as it isn’t going to replace a dirt bike, but you could probably still cover a lot of ground with it. It has off-road tires and 11-inch wheels, headlights, and a 800-watt brushless motor. They are promising up to 30 miles on a single charge, which should last you quite a long time.
Swagger Off-Road Scooter specs:
- 800-Watt Motor
- 11-inch All-Terrain Tires
- Compact Folding Design
- Alloy + Steel Frame
- Hydraulic Disc Brakes
- Front and Rear Swing Arm Suspension
- Front and Rear Fenders
- Adjustable-Height Handlebar
- LED Headlights
- 30-mile range
Of course, you may not be taking it into the desert outside of simple flat deserts to get from one sidewalk to another but who knows. They might be able to pull off more than you think. Since we haven’t seen one in action ourselves, we couldn’t say for sure, but one thing is for sure–we want one! So the assumed fun factor is already doing a good job of selling it.
The off-road skateboard is another interesting looking solution for those who prefer boards over scooters or bikes. Their skateboard rocks 9-inch tires with suspension both front and back. It has dual 800-watt motors that allow it to travel up to 25 mph at around 18 miles per charge. It doesn’t sound bad at all, but this one you will most likely want to keep to the streets and other flat terrain. I just don’t see anyone taking a skateboard into rough terrain. It definitely has an intimidating look to it that should bring in a lot of buyers.
Swagtron Off-Road Electric Skateboard specs:
- Dual 800-watt Hub Motors
- 9-inch All-Terrain Tires
- Front and Rear Suspension
- 10-ply deck (8 maple, 2 bamboo)
- 25 mph Top Speed
- 18-mile Range
They of course had many other items up for announcement this year that expands on their already vast portfolio of product, but these seemed to grab our attention the most based on all of the information we received. Although our favorite is still the go-kart they displayed last year. Sadly it looks like it never launched, but thankfully there are a lot of conversion kits available now that you can use to turn a normal hoverboard into a go-kart. So the option is still available.
