We ran into SwitchBot at CES 2023 this month where the company had plenty of its devices out for display. From automated curtains to its incredibly versatile lock, along with something new that everyone has been waiting for. The news that support for Matter is right around the corner.
The company will launch a new Hub 2 unit this March that will bring Matter support to its devices. Something we will likely be testing out when the time comes as this is going to be an excellent bridge for the company that will open its devices to such a wide selection of smart home ecosystems beyond its own.
For some devices, like the smart plug, the new hub won’t be required. A few devices will be Matter-ready using the original hub device. However, to get everything working with the new Matter standard (ie, the SwitchBot Lock), the new hub will be required (so it really comes down to which devices you use at home).
Along with Matter support, the new hub will feature some added integrated options, like a touch screen that can control a SwitchBot device, as well as a temperature and humidity sensor. It will do a number of things the original hub wasn’t capable of (and will be a little more in price because of it).
This will be a huge enhancement for anyone with SwitchBot products in their home, making what is already a stable and versatile system and turning it into something much more flexible and friendly. You can learn more about this in the following video (interview).
