SwitchBot is back with a new lock and this one comes with some fascinating upgrades that might help dial the company’s position in the market much further. It is the new Switchbot Lock Pro, and like its predecessor, sports an attractive price in addition to it all.
The company has already had a lot of success with its SwitchBot Lock. A solution that got a lot of attention from us due to its reasonable price tag and long list of features. Outside of some battery issues that users started experiencing (notifications of low battery even though the battery is fine and continues to work for months further), there were literally no complaints about the lock from users.
Now the new company’s new Lock Pro seeks to one-up that one with some additional features that should allow it to take the lead instantly. It too will simply integrate itself onto your current deadbolt, allowing you to keep what’s there while turning it smart.
It supports all of the accessories within SwitchBot’s product line, including the keypad (with numeric, biometric, and NFC support) and hubs (including the Matter-supported Hub 2). It comes with a sleek aluminum design that replaces the latch on the backside of the deadbolt (making it more like a lot of the other smart locks out there that make use of the original deadbolt as well). This gives it a lot more of a stable design vs the original lock that turned the latch that was already there but kind of stuck out like a sore nail in the process.
The company has also opted to move away from the less-common CR123A batteries. Instead, it now uses four AA batteries like most locks. While also giving you the option of buying into a rechargeable battery modules for a little extra battery life.
It will run you $119.99 for the lock by itself, or you can opt for a bundle at a higher price that comes with some of the other accessories (ie, keypad). It can be pre-ordered via SwitchBot’s website here.
