Another massive acquisition has been made that relates to T-Mobile. Leading to one less small provider that exists on its own now that it falls under one of the mobile giants. Ka’ena Corporation has sold Mint, as well as Plum, and Ultra Mobile to T-Mobile for $1.35 billion.
It has been waiting for approval by regulators for the last few months but is now official. This means Ka’ena Corporation and co-owner/actor Ryan Renalds have walked away with a notable return. Now Mint will be another brand to T-Mobile like Metro is, or like Cricket is to AT&T.
T-Mobile will keep the brand alive and has even said that it will make sure Mint’s affordable $15/mo plans will continue. Something that likely has a lot to do with the fact that T-Mobile has brushed away its cheapest $10/mo plan. Likely making Mint (along with Metro) the affordable arm of T-Mobile as it focuses its own brand on being the next step up the ladder.
The company will also be rolling out new features to Mint customers that it already offers. These features are to be rolled out in the coming months.
Unlike the purchase of Sprint, this acquisition didn’t gain a lot of attention, thus there wasn’t a lot of rebuttal from the competition and advocating groups looking to push against various monopoly fears.
