Targus has announced the official launch of its Thunderbolt 5 Dock, which looks to take on the tremendous specifications that come with the latest version of the Thunderbolt standard. The new dock packs several features that allow it to compete against a continuously growing market.
Imagine taking the latest specs found in USB-C docks these last few years and piling them into a single device. At first, there is nothing new when you consider some of the connectivity you’ll find, but then you give it the sheer power to actually deliver what these specs were meant to achieve, and you have a completely different story. This includes data thresholds that can accommodate the latest NVMe devices, and the ability to make use of multiple 8K monitors at once. Now, suddenly, you have a worthy dock capable of turning your favorite laptop into something comparable to a desktop solution.

This dock has what it takes thanks to the power of Thunderbolt 5. Triple 8K displays (not that many people make use of them just yet), total data transfer capabilities of up to 80Gbps that turn any external NVMe into a complete Hyper drive (you might have caught a pun there if you are familiar with Targus’ sister brands), 140W EPR charging, and integrated Thunderbolt Share.
As long as the hardware lives up to the specs, it should deliver an experience that any power user or professional would dream about in the modern world. Outside of the Thunderbolt 5 port that connects it to your system, it has three other Thunderbolt 5 ports for connecting additional Thunderbolt 5 devices, or any other USB-C device you have lying around. As well as four USB-A (3.2 Gen 2) ports, a 2.5GbE (Ethernet) port, and a headset port (for analog headsets, headphones, or microphones).
Thunderbolt 5 was the first version of the standard that really grasped my attention. Thunderbolt 3 was a nice tool to have for general use when you need a little “more” out of your system, but Thunderbolt 4 left me a bit underwhelmed. Then Thunderbolt 5 comes out and shows that it can be everything Thunderbolt 4 was meant to be and so much more. Thus, Thunderbolt 5 docks are likely going to take the world by storm and will only get better from here.
The new Targus Thunderbolt 5 Dock (Model DOCK230USZ) is available now, via the company’s website, for an MSRP of $399.99.
