Not all Tesla drivers were created equal. Most simply jump into their car and drive off with a really big smile on their face. While others, apparently, hijack semi-trailers and cruise around town with them for who knows whatever reason other than to have a laugh and show off.
This is exactly what happened in Harlingen, Texas this week when the driver of a Model Y decided to do just that. They jerry-rigged the 53-foot trailer to the back of the vehicle and took off with it. This led to a number of people who posted videos of the Model Y in action before it was later abandoned (the driver took off). All of which went viral.
Clearly it wasn’t the driver’s trailer and it seems it wasn’t even properly attached to the wire harness. It was simply hooked up to the installed tow hitch on the back and the Tesla was likely abandoned because it no longer had enough power to keep going or the driver decided he/she better start running before it was too late.
@science.is.magik Just a Tesla car pulling a semi-truck trailer #tesla
There is no telling if alcohol was involved or not, or if it was even the owner of the vehicle. But if you zoom the above video in, it does look like there is a high chance that it is a white male driver. Possibly shaved head with a goatee.

Regardless of if it was the owner of the vehicle or not, this kind of tow isn’t registerable, wasn’t connected properly, couldn’t make use of its proper safety mechanisms, and likely broke a lot of Texan laws that go way beyond that. Both the vehicle (which is likely severely damaged by this) and the trailer have been impounded by local police and it sounds like the driver is yet to be found.
This isn’t what I would have expected to write about today when it came to discussing Tesla but I just couldn’t help myself. That being said, it is highly suggested that no one else try doing something like this. The penalties will likely land someone in jail for a long time (not to mention fees and other penalties related). And finally, why would someone want to do something like that to a Tesla? Such a shame.
