Tesla is quick to step up every time there is a natural disaster. When a community or city is struck by such an event, the company is known for making life a little easier for those affected. It does this by reducing the cost of Supercharging to “free”. This is a rare act by a company that is held highly by many Tesla owners as it allows them to quickly charge up and clear the area without having to worry about costs.
This time, residents in certain locations within the state of Florida that were threatened by the (at the time) approaching Hurricane Ian, were greeted with missing Supercharger pricing when they planned their evacuations within the Tesla’s touchscreen display (navigation).
By doing this, it adds a little relief to the unfortunate experience these owners have to endure as they evacuate to safer locations. Not only that, but the company typically extends the range (through temporary software updates) of lower-range models, allowing drivers to get a little further on a charge.
This is something you will typically never see a gas station do for its customers. Or at least an oil company since it shouldn’t necessarily be expected from the individual stations that likely couldn’t afford such a grand gesture (as they are just a reseller that has to pay their portion of the sale as well).
(Note: The updated pricing only appears for those in the area)
