Quite possibly the most expensive HDMI cable in existence, there is a 20 meter (just over 65.5 ft) cable by WireWorld being offered on Amazon that will run you a heart stopping $10,500. That’s right, you’re not seeing things as this is absolutely the price you can get your hands on this cable for, and it is available right now.
At first, you probably think that the seller clearly experienced a typo while putting the item up for sale, however this is not the case. These cables actually sell for (assuming anyone anywhere actually spends this kind of money to buy into them) $1,000 to $1,500 for up to 2 meters worth. So doing the math, $10,500 is a steal right? Just look at the money you save by buying your length in bulk!
The cables are bragged as offering a 24-conductor DNA Helix design, composilex 2 insulation and solid silver conductors (well now, there is a small explanation of a portion of the price). However, these cables aren’t even HDMI 2.0. Given, you can find updated HDMI variations on WireWorlds’ website, available up to 23 ft in length (and that’s $4,000).
Who’s to say if anyone out there actually buys into these cables. All of the reviews on Amazon are by hecklers looking for a laugh by making up mock stories and experiences–some of which are pretty funny.
“I was excited to see the new Carbon Fiber model of HDMI cables, expecting them to be far superior to that cheap knock off diamond cable nonsense I’ve seen peddled. But when the cable came, it arrived in a 60 foot long box! Much to my chagrin this is not a flexible cable but rigid carbon fiber, like a hockey stick with no bend. I now use it as a curtain rod, and have unwillingly gone the diamond coated HDMI cable route. Don’t be fooled into purchasing this, unless your DVD player is 60 feet away and faces opposite your TV at the same height.” ByMaclean P. Gaulin (Amazon review)
“Sure it set me back a heap of dough & left me flat broke. Since buying this cable, the cable company cancelled my service, the power company shut off the electric, and Rent-A-Center picked up my 72” flat screen. But…and here’s the amazing thing: I’m still able to watch movies & television programs just having the cable laying on the living room floor! I don’t know how they achieve this – technology amazes me…While those are wonderful attributes, that’s not even the best part. Now Jean-Claude Van Damme & Steven Seagal movies have become brilliantly acted with engaging & thought-provoking plots!
This is one amazing HDMI experience!” Byogenmatic (Amazon review)
So chances are, WireWorld probably doesn’t do so well with these compared to your typical gold plated solutions available all throughout the market. I mean, we have a lot of audio and videophiles here that spend crazy amounts of money on their systems and theaters at home, and yet we have all agreed that we could never justify buying into these cables.
