EVs continue to become more widely adopted by consumers around the country. However, there are still a lot of things that lack certain “standards”, leading to confusion at charging stations and a lack of understanding of the difference between the various networks (Tesla, ChargePoint, etc). There will eventually be a time when a standard will have to be drawn out. Like gas pumps, there will have to be a one size fits all kind of solution no matter what charging station you pull up to (vs having to carry around a number of adapters).
With this, a petition has been formed to favor Tesla’s solution over the rest, and you can easily add your name to the list of those interested in such an idea. At the time of writing this, it has already collected over 16,000 signatures (and growing fast).
The idea is that Tesla’s plug adopts a simpler and more sleek design while being capable of incredibly fast charging speeds and lower installation costs (for stations).
Taking a look at the following image, you can see how Tesla’s plug takes on a more ergonomic and modern shape, maintaining a noticeably smaller footprint. It looks better, and requires less materials to manufacturer.
It would be good to to focus on such a standard before too many models enter the market (making it harder to adopt such standards). The sooner everyone agrees on something, the models we will see enter the market with said standard and less of a blow back from those having to adapt.
Letting the Government decide on their own solution would likely lean towards a bulkier and more nonsense solution backed by lobbyists looking for inflated contracts. However, if we ban together, we could influence them to take a more future-proofed and user-friendly/cost-friendly direction. Tesla’s connector is capable of incredible charging speeds and has a lot of potential.
If this is an idea that you support, you are welcome to add your name to the petition. The more names they get behind the petition, the stronger of an effect it will have on motivating any decision makers. Regardless, you can use the comments below to share your own thoughts on the matter. Do you think Tesla’s plug is the way to go for all vehicles?

Yeah, this could be an advantage for all of these reasons. Except then all of these companies would have to pay royalties to Tesla which would create an unfair advantage for the company. Unless they release the rights to the charger to the world to stimulate this idea which I doubt they would do. Never know though. Elon has done randomly surprising things like this all the time in the past.
