The need for additional power continues to grow as we finally move into the realm of NVIDIA 50-Series cards and other power-hungry devices. This is especially true for those looking to rock multiple graphics cards in their system. Thermaltake has a fascinating solution for the most powerful PC builds that fall into that latter category, but it does come with a catch.
Thermaltake revealed a ToughPower D2000 ATX 3.1 Power Supply that offers (as the name suggests) up to 2000W of power for your crazy build. This monster of a PSU has plenty of modular connectivity for all of your graphics cards and beyond and is 80 Plus Platinum certified (no surprise).

Just look at the potential that this PSU has to offer users, which includes four 12V-2×6 connections. This thing is enormous when it comes to power, while still being able to fit in most custom cases that can handle a larger PSU.
The catch is that it may not launch in the US. Or if it does, it likely won’t be sold in stores like Best Buy. You’d most likely have to order it straight from Thermaltake so that they can make you carefully read through some disclaimers or talk to you first. This is because most outlets in the US are 15A, which yields you around 1650W safely (1800W max, usually, before you start tripping breakers for sure).

This would simply overheat your outlet and potentially the wires in your wall, guaranteeing that you’ll be tripping your breaker (or worse) if you try to max this out. That doesn’t mean it isn’t impossible though. You could install a 20A breaker, run 10-12 gauge wire to your new outlet location, and install a 20A outlet just for your PC. Assuming, of course, you have access to your panel and the run could be done easily or at least at your skill level (or budget, if you plan to hire a proper electrician). You just wouldn’t want to plug anything else into that breaker. Reserve it just for the PSU and any external accessories/devices that need power can plug into your normal breaker.
Or, in most cases, this would be used within a commercial environment that has 20A outlets already. But now you see why they would want the buyer to be educated before buying one in the US (if it is ever offered for sale here).
Regardless, this is an amazing PSU and Thermaltake is definitely trying to flex its muscles with this one. Thermaltake products can be found just about everywhere, including Amazon.
