SD cards continue to climb in capacities as demand and technology continue to evolve. With it comes new sky-high pricing (usually) and a lot of exciting chatter about what it could be used for. Just imagine, if your camera takes SD cards, how many high-res images or videos you could squeeze onto it before you run out of space (etc).
With NVMe and other storage solutions inflating in price across the board as companies scramble to keep up with demand, it comes as no surprise that this one’s MSRP seems to have been affected the moment it launched.
That being said, the MSRP for the new SanDisk 2TB Extreme Pro UHS-II SDXC card lands at a whopping $1,999 on Amazon, which is absolutely insane for an SD card. This is going to lock out most users from buying one, leaving only the most dedicated professionals who have an absolute need for using one.
To find a little comparison, the SanDisk 1TB Extreme PRO UHS-II SDXC card launched back in mid-2023, and it came with (at the time) a hefty price tag of $449. Making for a huge difference of over four times that price just to get your hands on the 2TB model. The 1TB card has since risen in price, instead of going down, climbing $100 to $549. Making it even worse than its MSRP, but still, you could buy two of these at around half the price of the 2TB model.
So if you have a need for this card that can’t be quenched by anything else, you will have to pony up for it, and it may get worse from here, given that the 1TB model ended up climbing past its MSRP. Where usually, by now, it would have climbed down in price (which it did, as it was as low as $189 as of October of last year).
