Looking to add a bit more space to your personal media server? Toshiba is going to have an option for you later this year. The company has announced two new hard drives that will offer an 18TB capacity, giving you plenty of space for all of your personal data hoarding needs.
The new drives will land within the N300 NAS and X300 Performance lines, both offering 7200 RPM and 512MB cache (twice that of the other drives within the N300 series and 4x that of the others within the X300 Performance series). The N300 series is focused on data storage, making it great for media servers (low energy use). The X300 series differs as it is more about performance (as the name suggests), centered around enthusiasts and professionals. Both of which also feature Toshiba Flex Control (FC-MAMR) technology.
Either drive would make for a great addition for anyone looking to noticeably upgrade the space of their system or server.
Both models will be launching later this year, sometimes in Q4 (2021). No price information is available just yet, but you can imagine that it won’t be cheap. While at the same time, prices have been falling within the higher capacities, so they may not be all that bad either. You’ll likely see them launch at an MSRP of around $400-$500, competing with the likes of Western Digital and Seagate who both already have single-drive 18TB options in the market.
