Ok, so who doesn’t want their own figurine? This is a brilliant service offered by Shapify.me so that you don’t have to go out and dish out the money to buy your own 3D printer.
Their service supports both the Xbox and Windows version of the Kinect sensor, and you can use it to take a 3D scan of yourself so that they can turn it into a figure and send it to you. It’s actually very easy.
It does require you to keep a pose for awhile while being able to spin in a circle so that it can take about 7 scans of you in that pose.
The price is a little high at $59 but then again, they have no competition, so you are stuck with it until it becomes a normal thing. Again, it is better than buying your own 3D printer since that will run you thousands of dollars, plus the knowledge it takes to construct a 3D model of yourself without the use of their unique software and process.
Fun for those with big egos or gifts for friends and family, this may actually take off. Regardless, over time it will catch on once 3D printers become more present in the market.
