Vizio has announced that they are rolling out support for Apple’s AirPlay 2 and Homekit to their SmartCast 3.0 TVs. The new update is currently rolling out right now using Vizio’s over-the-air updates. Which means if you haven’t received it yet, sit tight as it might be just around the corner.
The new update brings the ability to stream music, movies and more using your iOS or Mac devices that support AirPlay 2, to any Vizio SmartCast 3.0 TV. This includes up to 4K with Dolby Vision HDR content, coming from apps like Apple TV, Netflix, HBO Now, and more. You can stream images or even a presentation.
With support for HomeKit, you will also be able to control your TV using your home automation setup. You can turn your TV on and off, and control various other functions through scenes within HomeKit or via voice using Siri. So when it is time to go to bed, you can simply tell Siri so that your TV can turn off with your lights and everything else.
Vizio models that feature SmartCast 3.0 date back to 2016, so if you bought your TV anytime soon, chances are the update is on its way. You could try manually searching for updates using the menu on your TV, but the update should occur on its own naturally.
