Vizio + Dolby Atmos = New 5.1.2 soundbar solution for your living room (insert applause here)

It’s been a good year for fun soundbars. We have never tested, demoed and randomly played with so many soundbar models in a single summer as we have this round. Most of this due to fun unique ways companies are learning to change the game of the soundbars all together. This time, we have something new coming from Vizio. Although we haven’t had the chance to test one out ourselves just yet, we can already imagine the fun effect this new model brings to the table.

Soundbars can already create a multi-channel experience to replace small 5.1 systems with, helping to reduce the footprint typically taken up by a bunch of speakers ran all over. Now, Vizio takes things one step further by adding a virtual height presence (instead of installing height speakers in your ceiling) with their new 5.1.2 channel Dolby Atmos model.

The new soundbar features additional speakers that fire upward to get a reflection off of your ceiling with, thus mimicking the presence of height speakers. A trick that is common with normal systems that usually accomplish this using their L/R main tower speakers. Vizio pulls it off by adding two small speakers into the bar itself, as well as the rear channel speakers.

The setup features their typical wireless sub with two rear satellite speakers, supports streaming from WiFi, Bluetooth and Chromecast, multi-room streaming, and can be controlled using Google Assistant.

It is available now and you will most likely see it rolling out to stores on and offline shortly.
