Not everyone needs the speed of SSD when it comes to external storage. Sometimes capacity outweighs speed when it comes to general file storage and backups. The fact that HDD costs less than SSD when it comes to capacity vs price, keeps these spinning drives from going out of style. Now, Western Digital has added a new 6TB option to some of its lines.
It’s been a while since we have seen a new capacity option in 2.5″ external hard drives, so it’s nice to see things moving forward again. This will be a great option as file sizes continue to grow due to higher resolution averages and other evolutions in computing we have seen over the last 5 years.
The new 6TB capacity has found its way into two of WD’s line-ups, including the WD_BLACK P10 Game Drive ($204.99) and My Passport Ultra series ($189.99). As well as SanDisk G-DRIVE ArmorATD (part of the WD family of brands), which runs $229.99. All of which can be found online currently via Western Digital’s website. Soon to be available via retailers as stock finds its way to them.
Until SSD products meet the capacities and price points of spinning drives, these HDD solutions will remain popular for those moving or storing large amounts of data while on the go. Hopefully, we will continue to see them grow through time.
