This actually follows up our previous coverage on Microsoft announcing FLAC compatibility in Windows 10. Joe Belfiore (Microsoft) has also pointed out that Windows Phones running the new OS will support the format as well. Users of the insider build (developer build) will not see it just yet, but to plan on seeing it in the coming months of updates as they continue to roll out the new features of the OS.
Currently Windows 10 is still in development, so consumers won’t be seeing it until probably the later half of this year. If you have access to the insider program though, keep your fingers crossed that you may get to test this new compatibility out soon.
FLAC support will allow Windows Phone devices to play back higher quality sound files, usually enjoyed by audiophiles. Taking smartphones outside of the MP3 barrier.
