Sadly, another episode of leaked information occurred this month on December 4th, resulting in the information of millions of users being exposed to the world. The leak occurred at Wyze, a manufacturer of smart home devices, including cameras, plugs, locks, bulbs and more.
Wyze stated that this leak was due to an employee who exposed a copy of their main database they were working on of around 2.4 million customers, leaking information such as their email addresses, token information, camera names, Wi-Fi information, and more. Wyze states that no passwords were included in this breach, nor financial information. However, they force-logged all of their users out just to make sure (forcing them to acquire new tokens as they log back in). Wyze customers should absolutely change their passwords just in case, as you can never be too careful.
Wyze cameras were heavily made available during the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales this year, with price cuts that lead to an exceedingly higher rate of discussions in regards to their products and the number of consumers rushing to take advantage of these sales. The normal MSRP on these cameras alone is low enough to drive a lot of attention. With as much as they are growing, hopefully Wyze takes huge steps towards preventing this from ever happening in the future.
