Many other publications have been acting like this is a huge event. A rare opportunity to save a lot on one of the new Xbox consoles. However, you’re only saving $20, which obviously isn’t much to bat an eye at. However, if you had already planned on spending the money on an Xbox Series S, then you might as well save a little.
That being said, you can find the Xbox Series S here on Woot! where the company is offering the console at $279 instead of the normal $299. If you are also an Amazon Prime member, you get free shipping as well (since Amazon owners Woot!)
Use the money you save to buy a new game or put toward an accessory, like a second controller. That is, unless you already have controllers from any of the previous Xbox One consoles, as these will work with the new Series S/X consoles.
Many gamers may find that the Series S console is more than enough for them. This is perfect, given that you can’t really find the Xbox Series X anywhere (and since Microsoft has officially discontinued all over Xbox consoles). This includes anyone that doesn’t absolutely require true 4K or physical discs. If you want the added power of the new systems and are ok with keeping everything digital, the Xbox Series S is still quite a powerful system and “upscales” content to 4K. Great for those looking to subscribe and play most of their games via Xbox Game Pass subscriptions.
What everyone is making a big deal about is the fact that it is the first time one of the new Xbox consoles has seen a price drop. I don’t think this is a hint of things to come in the near future due to the sheer demand of the Xbox One X console, as well as the chip shortage, scalpers/bot, shipping troubles, and the company’s inability to keep up with it all. Added to that is the continued popularity of the Xbox Series S. So you are likely to see the normal MSRP stick around for a while.
