You might have noticed that companies like UPS and FedEx have been offering new features that allow you to watch the progress of a truck destined to bring you a package live on a map as it makes it’s way to your home. A pretty neat feature that builds both anticipation as well as security in knowing where your package is and when it is somewhat close to being delivered vs being given a huge time window for when it may arrive.
You can do the same thing for your own trips, allowing you to share your location and progress with friends and family using Google Maps. Once you have begun your navigation, you would look for the ? button and select “Share trip progress” and choose who to send it to. It will then share your route and location information with that person who will be able to see your ETA and everything, until you have arrived at your destination (which ends the sharing process). You will be able to share it through third party apps as well like Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp.
The update rolls out today for Android users as well as iOS. If you don’t have Google Maps, you can find it in Play Store (Android) or the App Store (iOS).
