Disney has been looking to combine the two platforms since there is so much popularity around bundling them. Not only would this make watching content between the two sources much easier to access, but it could lead to easier conversions for the company as users see Hulu pop up as a menu item.
Of course, to access the content one would have to be a bundle subscriber (hence the conversion potential) or simply subscribe to both services on their own using the same email as their login. It would appear in the menu like some of the other categories of content from the many brands that Disney owns.
Currently, the new feature is considered to be in “beta” as the company tests to see how well it performs and how well users react to it. It still has a lot of work to do on the new section before it will feel comparable in any way to using the Hulu app directly (in ways). For now, it is more like a preview of things to come, showing that the company is indeed working on making it possible.
I say “in ways” since it won’t ever include everything available within the Hulu app. This will simply be an ease-of-access to common material within Hulu so that Disney Plus will feel a bit more all-inclusive. While still providing reasons to use both apps separately.
The finished project should roll out sometime within the first half of next year (2024).
