Today you learn a very quick tip when it comes to choosing the right font for your website!
If you want to be taken seriously, use a serious font. We get asked a lot by our clients when it comes to what font should be used on their pages, and 99% of the time our answer is the same.
The best fonts to use are those that look best to the eye. In other words, stick to straight fonts like Arial, Helvetica, and Trebuchet MS. Stay away from complicated fonts like cursive and artistic types. These fonts work well for graphics/logos but not general text.
Time New Roman? Ya, sure…it’s still “in”, but don’t you admit Arial is a little easier on the eyes? You want to make sure your readers are catered to, and that they want to stay on your site for as long as possible (reducing your bounce rate).
A popular discussion among web designers: Stay away from Comic Sans! The font is unprofessional and will date the feel of your website to the early to mid-90s and appear that a young child, dabbling in design, had created it. This font is only good if you manage a comic-based website (ie, an online comic strip or if you are DC Comic company).
Take a look at your competition and get an idea of what fonts they like to use. Visit your favorite news or technology websites. Always make sure you stay with the times, and never fall behind (or else your site will show its age faster than you believe).
