Cleaning a laptop screen is an important task that can help improve the visibility and overall performance of your device. Mostly, to eliminate the annoyance of staring at a dirty screen every time you use it. However, it’s important to follow a few precautions to ensure that you don’t damage the screen or the device itself while cleaning. I’ve seen some interesting things at coffee shops which led me to talk about this today.
So many times have I seen someone spray their screen and randomly take a paper towel or anything else nearby to scrub everything down. This is actually a terrible way to get the job done. So I am going to break it down into a few points.
- For one, use a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid using rough or abrasive materials like paper towels or harsh cloths to clean the screen. These materials can scratch the surface of the screen, causing permanent damage. Instead, use a soft, lint-free cloth to gently wipe away dirt and smudges. Try to also avoid the small/thin clothes you typical use for glasses though as they might not absorb much for the surface are you are covering.
- Avoid using harsh chemicals. Some people may be tempted to use harsh chemicals like window cleaner or alcohol to clean their screen. However, these chemicals can strip away the protective coating on the screen, causing it to become more susceptible to scratches and damage. Instead, use a mild cleaning solution specifically designed for computer screens or a mixture of water and a small amount of mild dish soap.
- Be gentle. When cleaning the screen, be gentle and avoid applying too much pressure. Use a light, circular motion to wipe away dirt and grime, rather than scrubbing or rubbing the screen.
- Avoid getting water inside the device. Be careful not to let any cleaning solution or water seep into the edges of the screen or into the device itself. This can cause damage to the internal components of the laptop. So you’ll want to start from the edges and wipe inward. If you wipe toward the edges, it pushes any moisture and dirt toward those edges where it might get inside any open spaces in the frame.
It’s an easy process and helps extend the life of your ever-so-precious laptop. By following these tips, you can safely clean your screen and keep it in top condition. Regular cleaning can help improve the visibility and performance of your device, and keep it looking like new and your eyes less distracted by all of the dust.
For one, turn off the laptop and unplug it: Before you start cleaning the screen, make sure to turn off the laptop and unplug it from any power source. This will prevent any accidental damage to the device.
