Ring doorbells allow you to tweak things in pretty well when it comes to only getting motion alerts for certain areas of the image, or focusing on humans (or human-like objects). Sadly, it isn’t perfect as many things can still trigger false positives. Especially if it is heavily windy outside causing all of your trees and bushes to move around. This movement and the shadows that may also be affected can cause all sorts of false positives. So it’s windy days like this that you should know how to snooze your alerts to help lessen the many bothersome alerts that can result.
When the wind becomes unbearable and you are getting a motion alert every so many seconds, this is how you “snooze” those alerts for a window of time until things calm down (ringing of the bell will still function as normal). It only works for the mobile apps, so if you have the apps installed on your computer, it may still trigger on those platforms.
Open the Ring app on your mobile device and look for the camera thumbnail for the device you want to Snooze. Tap on the three dots at the top right of the thumbnail for a menu. One of the options that display should be “Snooze”. Once you press on this, it will take you to a screen where you’ll be asked for the time duration of the snooze. Estimate how long you think it may take for those winds to die down and hit snooze. That’s it! That camera is now snoozed from sending motion alerts to that device until the window of time expires.
You can also find the option by heading to “devices” in the menu and choosing the camera. In the camera’s menu of options, you will find an icon with a half-moon that says “Motion Snooze”. This leads to the exact same window where you can choose for how long.
Normally, isolating certain cameras is the key as not all cameras may be getting hit by things moving around in the wind. That way you aren’t completely disabling your alerts (if you have multiple Ring cameras around the home). However, you may still find yourself wanting to snooze everything. To do this, simply open the app to its main dashboard and look for the half-moon icon at the top right. This will allow you to snooze everything. This icon will only show if you have multiple cameras. So if you only have one, it won’t be an option.
Now, you can rest knowing you won’t be bothered by every tree blowing around or every shadow it casts running across the motion zones within your camera’s view. Clearly usable for other needs as well, not just wind. The wind just happens to be one of the most common situations.
