The marketing department is hard at work, always rolling out new controller designs to help entice players into upgrading or adding a new controller to their collection (does anyone actually, collect, Xbox controllers? — that could get expensive fast). The latest creation has been themed around the (fantastic) Star Wars Mandalorian series and looks pretty cool.
This new controller also comes with an Xbox Pro Charging Stand to help keep it charged when not in use, and it too is themed all the same, including a very noticeable emblem on the front.
It looks pretty cool. Beyond that, there isn’t much difference with the controller. Like any of the modern controllers, it supports every console starting from the original Xbox One through the new Series X/S systems launching next month.
One thing you won’t be able to help from noticing is the price tag. At $169.99, this is one incredibly expensive Xbox controller. Kind of makes you wonder if it’s necessary. A plain controller will run you $60 and an off-brand charger (there are many–like this one--and they work great) will run you less than $30 typically, and they charge two controllers at the same time (and come with batteries). So this is a steep price for a typical Xbox controller and dock beyond the graphic design, of course.
If you think none of that matters and that you absolutely have to get your hands on one, you can currently pre-order it right here on Microsoft’s website. It will officially launch on December 31, 2020, giving it an after-Christmas drop date.
