For quite some time there, Twitter was experiencing some terrible spam troubles. On the level of daily mobile announcements (via the Twitter app) promoting various spam accounts on the social platform. Most of which represented fake images of females offering various (and obvious) services or needs. All with the hope that someone will click on them and fall into the various traps.
These accounts typically seek to defraud users or steal personal information and the issue was becoming pretty significant. However, as of recently, we have all noticed that the occurrence of these announcements on mobile devices has drastically fallen. In some cases, some have reported that these messages have halted completely.
This is fantastic news for a social platform that has been plagued with spam and political propaganda for some time now. Making for what could possibly be a brighter future for the company.
Clearly, Twitter has suddenly been working overtime to reduce this content and enhance protections against these bots. A little late, but it still helps with the company’s reputation. Especially, after Elon Musk announced he would back out of purchasing the company due to the sheer amount of fake accounts and spam bots that were not disclosed during related talks.
It’s hard to say if this will help Twitter’s push to force Musk to go through with the deal or not. A related trial will begin next month (October) that may determine if Musk’s claims are valid enough to back out or if he will be forced to adhere to the $44 billion purchase.
Regardless of the outcome, it is such a relief to no longer have to swipe away so many fake notifications daily. Some here had even uninstalled the app to get away from it all. Therefore, they may just consider coming back if the ship continues to sail so smoothly.
