KZ AS06 In Ear Monitor Headphones – Balanced Armature Delight

Today I had the distinct pleasure to test a triple driver set of in ear monitors from KZ: the KZ AS06 Earphones are fitted with 3 balanced armatures containing a total of 6 drivers for full range kicking good times. Let’s take them into the listening room: 

In The Box

The basic black KZ retail box opens to display the jewel like KZ AS06 earpieces with their clear Cyan shell displaying a large “6”  and the words “balanced armature.” Underneath the pre fit foam tray are the small and large eartips. As usual the medium eartips come pre-installed. There is also a multi language instruction manual and a bronze colored detachable .75mm 2 pin cable with 3.5mm jack. Our unit came with the phone type cable which included a microphone and MFB(Multifunction button) which allows you to play/pause tracks and  skip to next/previous track on your smartphone or tablet. It also allows one to answer or reject phone calls, and if you have an iOS product, or Android product with Google Assistant, you can use the MFB to engage Siri or Google. The KZ AS06 balanced armatures utilize one driver for mid-high frequency reproduction, 2 drivers for the mid frequency reproduction and finally 3 drivers comprise the bottom end including a 22955 ultra low-frequency driver. I put these devices through their paces with my usual pile of amazing music including but not limited to Rock, RnB, House, Blues, Classical, and Jazz while utilizing my pile of devices including iOS, Android, and Amazon Fire HD phones and/or tablets. Let’s take a closer listen:

In My Head

I listen to a lot of audio equipment from the cheapest to the highest level of professional gear. I have ridiculously high standards when it comes to devices which go directly into my ears. Distortion or screaming frequencies can do quick and permanent harm to one’s ears and my ears are my paycheck. Please use all due caution when using In-ear type solutions whether in one’s home or on the stage. The KZ AS06 triple BA earphones are smooth and crystal clear across the frequency range without any jarring or harsh frequencies. When listening to horns my ears weren’t crisping even at levels which some might find very uncomfortable for long. I put them on my audio desk and frequency generator and could get musical sounding low-end right to 30 Hz. The low-end is not mushy or over blown in these well thought out in ear monitors but clear and strong along with the mids and highs. The high mids cut right through in a delightful and open stereo imaging I would expect from earbuds which cost two or three times as much.  I also used the KZ AS06 earphones to make and receive business phone calls in the office during my evaluation period. The voices were clear and strong in both ears and those who I spoke to said I sounded clear and not boxy. I had no problems using the MFB to change or manipulate music in my various players, and making phone calls the functionality of the MFB was instinctive in the KZ AS06 earphones after only a few calls.

Final Thoughts

The KZ AS06 Earphones with 3 balanced armatures and 6 drivers per earpiece performed flawlessly during my testing period. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to a variety of music which was both full and exciting with great stereo imaging across the auditory spectrum. When listening to dynamic music the KZ AS06 earbuds were able to express both subtle and brash tones without notable distortion or any obvious frequency enhancement at any level while reproducing smooth lows, powerful mids topped off with a bright and clear high-end. An amazing sounding product at a low-end entry-level price. 9.5 out of 10. I can’t wait to see what’s coming next to share with our readers in this exciting year at Poc Network!
