We recently received a few things in from Vansky to take a peek at, one of which is their USB car mount (which we will discuss below) and the other is their quite affordable wireless Bluetooth in-ear headphones (earbuds). This year we spent some time with a handful of earbuds, with prices ranging from $15 to $200. Surprisingly, these little guys hold up to nearly half of those.
So with a pair of headphones that cost less than $20 on average, you have to ask: “how on Earth, is it that they can hold up to the more expensive options?”. The answer is simple really. They do what they are supposed to do and they sound good doing it. A lot of the more expensive headphones focus on things like “water resistance”, “crisp highs” and other specialties. However, sometimes they lack a balance of things–which is what most general consumers are looking for. Crisp highs are great, as long as your lows also have presence with a good mix in between. Waterproof is great, but do they sound good?
Given, some of those do sound good and fulfill everything you’re looking for. They just don’t always fall into a price range you’re looking to spend. So enter “Vansky” with their $15-20 earbuds and you’re ready to start making a deal. These headphones aren’t waterproof and they won’t provide you with audiophile sound. What they will provide you with though, is a balance ranged of sound, including bass. So if you simply need a wireless solution that gives a good balance of sound, you’re done.
They feature a built-in microphone for taking phone calls with and it sounds just fine. We didn’t have any troubles in testing it as the person on the other line could hear the subject using the headphones just fine. It also works great for voice commands and searches when triggering Siri or Cortana in the tests.
They are super light weight and the gels are nice and soft. This means they are comfortable to the wear, even for long periods of time. They come with small rubber rings that help secure them to your ear by hugging the inside of your outer ear area (“pinna”, if you want to get technical). The rings are equally as comfortable.
We spent a great deal of time passing them around and listening to everything from various club beats to classic rock (as well as a little Vivaldi). They performed just fine every time. Typically what most wireless earbuds lack is bass, and these don’t experience this trouble at all. They won’t sound like an on-ear pair, but the bass doesn’t hide from you either. If you bought a pair of $30 Sony earbuds (wired), this is what they would sound like. Pretty fair deal for being wireless and lower in cost.
Battery life is about 4-6 hours talk or listen, so it isn’t bad at all if you are bringing them to the gym or work for the day. We have seen better battery life for earbuds but not in this price range. Range is about 12-20 feet, so you will want to keep them close to your phone (or whatever is feeding them) else you will lose connection. This is common for most headphones under $50, so this didn’t both us.
Button layout is simple with a main bottom on the right bud that turns it on or off by holding it down. It talks to you to let you know it is powering up or down once done right. Clicking on it once can trigger play/pause for whatever music your listening to and a short hold will trigger your Siri, Cortana (or “equiv”).
No water resistance or proofing, so you won’t want to go diving with these or rock out to your favorite Queen song in the shower. You should be fine against sweat though as we have never shorted a pair of headphones out with sweat–ever.
They include a number of extra gels to help fit best with your ear with. They come in both black and clear colors in case you have a preference and the same goes for the rings that help them fit to your ear. They also include a short USB cable for charging, although we’d recommend using a longer one you have laying around unless you’re ok with keeping them close to the USB port (real close). Maybe they did this to keep the packaging minimal (or help keep the price down).
You have two color options, black and green. The green focuses more on the wire than the headphones, but you do get a two-tone on the buds and it looks nice.
BONUS Mention: Vansky USB Car Mount
This is an extra something they sent us in the mail to look at. It doesn’t quite fit into what we normally discuss (we discussed it briefly on Amazon instead), however it was still worth mentioning. This is a mount that fits into your 12v lighter input in your car to hold your cellphone with. It comes with a solid goose neck that can hold any weight you use it for (cellphone-wise) and features two USB inputs to charge said phone with as well as one other device.
What l like about this is that it is built tough. As we mention in the videos below, goosenecks don’t always deliver when it comes to weight and this one doesn’t flinch a muscle. Nice stiff grip to it so that you can feel safe taking corners fast or flying over speed bumps–not that you would do that–without losing your phone from the mount.
It also adjusts in height so that it can adapt to whatever cellphone you use, no matter how big or small. We threw over 12 different models at it, and each one felt just as secure as the other.
The addition of two USB ports is a major plus as well as what would be the point of using your 12v outlet for holding a mount if it didn’t offer you something in exchange for sacrificing a source of electricity. It also runs around $15 (give or take), making it affordable and useful to a lot of people. Rated on it’s own, I would give it 10 stars simply because it doesn’t lack anywhere. It accomplishes exactly what it should.
It’s important to note, that these are two completely separate products. The car mount does not come with the headphones. I just wanted to make sure it was mentioned on the site since it’s a great buy!
Our Conclusion
A good Bluetooth solution for those looking for in-ear headphones. They are average, but balanced. They are lightweight, comfortable and usable for long periods at a time. They sync quickly, sound good and run less than $20. You really can’t go wrong. These are great for kids or anyone else looking for a simple solution.
