Amazon has announced the new 2022 edition of the Kindle Fire 7 tablet that will be released late next month (shipping begins June 29th). It is the latest version of the entry-level 7″ Kindle Fire, and like any new generation in the past, comes with a few new upgrades.
One of which is better battery life, leading to up to 10 hours of use until needing to head back to the charger. Making it a little more appealing for the price and a little more competitive with some of the third-party generic brands out there that have been getting a little better in recent years. You will also see an improvement thanks to a faster processor (30% faster).
It also has a USB-C port for charging/data, which is a long-needed upgrade. It’s nice to see Amazon moving forward with that, although it doesn’t come at much of a surprise due to the heat that has been on Apple in Europe.
All other specs look to remain the same this round. So the refresh was simply to bring the tablet a little more up to date with modern standards and expectations. It will still feature 16GB or 32GB variations, as well as ad-supported or ad-free (lockscreen ads), and will come in three colors (black, blue, and pink).
The new tablet does come with a price increase as well. Like everything else either suffering from or taking advantage of recent inflation world-wide, the price of the new Fire 7 tablet will be raising $10 to $59.99 (for the ad-supported edition). To drop the adds, you are looking at $74.99.
Pre-orders are currently open for the new tablet, allowing you to lock one in before it begins shipping later in June.
