One of my favorite e-readers has been the Amazon Kindle, and this year I got my hands on their Kindle Paperwhite, which seemed to offer everything I wanted in an e-book reader. It has plenty of space and the screen looks fantastic. The only thing that went through my mind was: “If only this was waterproof.” That was the only feature missing that would have made it “perfect,” allowing you to take it with you anywhere, without having to worry about any type of moisture getting to it.
Now, a number of months later, Amazon has announced their new Kindle Paperwhite and guess what? The new model comes with a small number of new features and one of those is now being waterproof (I guess I should have waited a few more months).
It still comes with that fantastic 300 ppi screen that allows you to read in any condition without glare or strain. Its light allows you to read in the dark as well, without the light projecting into your ears–thus you can read before bed without it affecting you.
You now have double the capacity to store all of your books with, moving from 4GB to 8GB of total storage. They also offer a 32GB option to move up to if you find yourself downloading a lot of audiobooks (since they consume far more space than a collection of simple books).
The Kindle Paperwhite is capable of going weeks before having to be recharged, allowing you to take it on vacation without ever worrying about a place to plug it in. With it being waterproof, this expands where you can take it with you all the more. Bring it to the beach, relax in a spa or read your favorite book while taking a shower (if you want to confront normality I guess). On top of everything, it is IPX8 rated, making it one of the strongest levels of resistance to water and dust out there (your average devices usually fall within the IPX6-IPX7 range).
It will be launching on November 7th, but you can order it now to make sure that you will be among the very first to get your hands on one. You can do so via the following button. It retails starting at $129 depending on how you customize it.
