The company behind Bluetooth, SIG (Bluetooth Special Interest Group) has finally adopted the new 5.0 specification, allowing for even great performance while still maintaining the low-power usage that Bluetooth is known for.
With 5.0, you now have four times the range, two times the speed and eight times the broadcast message capacity. This means bigger badder Bluetooth devices for your mobile streaming pleasure as well as everything else taking advantage of the Bluetooth spec. Now those wireless speakers can be located anywhere in your house without having to worry about where your phone is in the mix of things.
They predict that new 5.0 devices will begin to trickle into the market within two to six months (duh). This is perfect for companies like Apple who have been having trouble with their new AirPods due to connection issues. Since previous versions of Bluetooth can only connect to one device at a time, when you have no wire running in between the two earbuds, that means that one earbud is having to transmit the signal to the other bud via a low energy wireless stream. There has been a lot of complications with this because the connection tends to drop out all the time causing issues with sync. Now maybe we will see an even bigger jump into the wireless world of things (as well as IoT).
