The AI wars continue as Google announces a plethora of integrations it has planned for its Bard AI and similar AI technologies. Building them into everything from its search engine to individual apps. One of the apps that will be getting updated to include AI soon is Google Photos.
Google Photos will soon be able to use generative AI to enhance the photos on your Android devices, cleaning them up and even modifying some of the elements within the image in an attempt to make a better photo. This includes changing cloud patterns, brightening up colors, removing unwanted or distracting objects, or even extending the background by filling in cut-off areas.
The company provided a number of examples, including the image you see above. Where it had made a number of changes to the photo, covering just about all of these categories. Clearing up the skies, zooming the image out and filling in the background with anything it deems missing. It even adjusts the perspective of the child sitting on the bench so that the balloons cover some of the wall behind them in a way that allows the eyes to focus more on the child and the balloons.
This will be introduced into the app as “Magic Editor” and will (of course) be limited to (select) Google Pixel phones at first. A continued attempt to try to raise sales of its in-house models. While other Android models will receive the update at a later time.
The new feature will be considered to be in experimental form using user feedback as a means to improve on it as needed. So there will be chances that the resulting image might not be as fancy as the one above. As with any AI tool currently, this doesn’t come at a surprise.
